When It Doesn’t Align, It’s Okay to Walk Away

This week has been BUSY.

And listen, being an entrepreneur is exhausting. Building businesses, working, being a mom, chasing dreams, creating opportunities....some days I look at my schedule and wonder who exactly I thought I was when I signed myself up for all of this.

But lately, I’ve realized it’s deeper than simply building businesses or chasing dreams.

I’m trying to build a kingdom-centered life.

I’m actively pursuing the things I feel called to pursue while continuously praying, God, please make sure what I’m chasing is actually aligned with what You have for me.

And sometimes that prayer comes with answers we weren't necessarily expecting.

This week, I got one of those answers.

There was something I had been praying about involving another avenue of my professional life. I found myself struggling with something I think many Christians probably experience at some point:

Where is the line between separating your personal beliefs from your professional life and compromising something you deeply believe?

Professionally, I have to remove my personal feelings from situations all the time. That's part of being an adult. Not everyone is going to think like me, believe what I believe, live how I live, or see the world through the same lens I do.

And I don't expect them to.

But this particular situation felt different.

This wasn't simply a personal preference.

This was something I felt conflicted about as a Christian and as a follower of Christ. I kept questioning how I was supposed to professionally stand behind something when, personally and spiritually, I didn't feel that I could.

So I prayed about it.

And eventually, the answer became clear:

You don't have to.

There have been plenty of times in my life when I jumped on the bandwagon because everyone else was doing it. I didn't ask questions. I didn't stop and think about whether something aligned with my values. Sometimes I just went along because going against the crowd is uncomfortable.

I'm not that person anymore.

Today, I ask questions.

I challenge things.

I pray about things.

I ask myself whether the opportunities, relationships, businesses, and decisions I'm putting my name behind align with the woman God is calling me to become.

Does that sometimes make people uncomfortable? Probably.

But my intention isn't to make anyone uncomfortable, judge anyone else's choices, or convince everyone to believe exactly what I believe.

My responsibility is my own walk with God.

And I am a follower of Christ before I am an entrepreneur, employee, business owner, content creator, or anything else.

That means there may be times when I have to respectfully say:

This doesn't align with my faith, so I can't participate.

And then walk away.

From an opportunity.

From a friendship.

From a job.

From a room I thought I desperately wanted a seat in.

Because I'm learning that not every opportunity is my opportunity.

Not every open door is a door I'm supposed to walk through.

And sometimes protecting what God is building in your life requires having enough faith to walk away from something....even when you don't know what's waiting on the other side.

I believe another opportunity will come.

I believe God will provide.

And I would rather lose an opportunity while staying true to my faith than gain something while knowing I compromised something important to me to get it.

Especially now that I have little eyes watching me.

My children are watching how I build this life. They're watching how I handle pressure, how I treat people who believe differently than I do, how I stand firm in what I believe, and how willing I am to trust God when doing the right thing isn't necessarily the easiest thing.

I want them to know you can love people without agreeing with everything.

You can respect people without abandoning your own convictions.

You can say no without being cruel.

And you can walk away without creating a war on your way out.

Sometimes you simply say, This isn't for me.

You pray.

You trust God.

And you keep walking.

And obviously, if I'm going to be doing all this walking...

I'm doing it in my favorite Leviticus boots.

That's one of the reasons Leviticus Fashions has become more than fashion to me. I love being able to represent a company while sharing the things that matter deeply to me.... faith, purpose, courage, and becoming the woman God created me to be.

So here's your reminder going into another week:

Don't do something simply because everyone around you is doing it.

Don't silence that little voice telling you to pray about something.

Ask questions.

Use discernment.

Stand firm in your morals.

Stand firm in your faith.

And when something truly doesn't align with the life God is calling you to live, know that it's okay to respectfully walk away.

You don't have to know what the next opportunity looks like yet.

Sometimes you just have to trust the One leading you there.

Have a blessed week. 🤍

And wherever God leads you next...make sure you've got a good pair of boots for the walk.
